في خطوة رمزية مؤثرة، تحمل سفينة أسطول الحرية المتجهة لكسر الحصار عن قطاع غزة اسم “مادلين”، تكريمًا لامرأة فلسطينية استثنائية، “مادلين كلاب”، التي تجسد صمودًا أسطوريًا وتحديًا لا يتزعزع في وجه الصعاب.
لم تكن مادلين مجرد صيادة، بل كانت أول وأصغر فتاة فلسطينية تعمل في هذا المجال الشاق في غزة، لتصبح بذلك أيقونة للنضال والعزيمة.
ولدت مادلين في عائلة صيادين، ونشأت على حب البحر ومساعدة والدها في عمله منذ نعومة أظفارها. لكن القدر كان يحمل لها تحديًا كبيرًا في سن مبكرة.
عندما بلغت الثالثة عشرة من عمرها، أصيب والدها بمرض أقعده عن العمل، لتجد مادلين نفسها مضطرة لتحمل المسؤولية الكاملة عن إعالة أسرتها. وبشجاعة لا تلين، نزلت مادلين إلى البحر، لتحل محل والدها على مركب الصيد، وتصبح أول فتاة تعمل في هذه المهنة التي كانت حكرًا على الرجال في غزة.
وعالرغم من ذلك استمرت مادلين في هذا العمل الشاق لأكثر من عقدين، حتى بلغت الثلاثين من عمرها. لم تكتفِ بتحدي الأعراف الاجتماعية وتأمين لقمة العيش لأسرتها، بل سعت أيضًا لتمكين نساء أخريات، محاولة تعليم الفتيات والسيدات فنون الصيد، لتفتح لهن آفاقًا جديدة وفرصًا للعمل في مجتمع يعاني من قيود كبيرة.
وعلى مر السنين، لم تسلم مادلين ومركبها من ويلات الاحتلال.
فقد تعرض مركبها للتدمير مرات عديدة على يد قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، في محاولة لثنيها عن عملها وكسر إرادتها. لكن في كل مرة، كانت مادلين تعود أقوى وأكثر تصميمًا، تُرمم مركبها وتعود إلى مياه غزة، متحدية بذلك كل محاولات القمع واليأس.
الآن، وفي أعقاب الحرب الأخيرة المدمرة على غزة، فقدت مادلين أعز ما تملك: والدها ومركبها، شريان حياتها ومصدر رزقها.
ولكن حتى في هذا الخضم من الفقدان والألم، تبقى قصة مادلين كلاب منارة للأمل والصمود، دافعًا لتسمية سفينة أسطول الحرية باسمها.
إن تسمية السفينة بـ”مادلين” ليست مجرد تكريم لامرأة واحدة، بل هي رسالة قوية للعالم أجمع عن معاناة الشعب الفلسطيني وصموده الأسطوري في وجه الحصار والاحتلال. إنها تذكير بأن خلف كل محاولة لكسر الحصار، هناك قصص إنسانية مؤلمة، قصص أشخاص مثل مادلين كلاب، الذين دفعوا ثمناً باهظاً بسبب الظلم الواقع عليهم.
وعلى متن هذه السفينة، التي تحمل اسم “مادلين”، كان هناك 12 شخصًا شجاعًا حاولوا كسر الحصار الظالم، ولكنهم للأسف، محتجزون الآن من قبل قوات الاحتلال.
كل الدعم والحب لمادلين وعائلتها، وللشجعان الذين كانوا على متن السفينة، في انتظار حريتهم ورفع الحصار عن غزة. إن قضيتهم هي قضية الإنسانية جمعاء، وقصة “مادلين” ستظل تُلهم الأجيال القادمة لتحدي الظلم والسعي نحو الحرية والكرامة.
“Madeleine”: A Freedom Flotilla Ship Named After Gaza’s First Fisherwoman
In a deeply symbolic and poignant gesture, the Freedom Flotilla ship heading to break the siege on the Gaza Strip has been named “Madeleine”, honoring an extraordinary Palestinian woman, Madeleine Kullab. She embodies legendary steadfastness and unwavering defiance in the face of immense hardship. Madeleine wasn’t just a fisherwoman; she was the first and youngest Palestinian girl to work in this arduous field in Gaza, becoming an icon of struggle and determination.
Born into a family of fishermen, Madeleine grew up loving the sea and helping her father from a tender age. However, fate held a significant challenge for her at an early age. When she was just thirteen, her father fell ill and could no longer work. Madeleine found herself compelled to take on the full responsibility of supporting her family. With unflinching courage, Madeleine went to sea, replacing her father on the fishing boat, becoming the first girl to work in a profession that was historically exclusive to men in Gaza.
Madeleine continued this demanding work for over two decades, until she reached the age of thirty. She didn’t just challenge social norms and secure a livelihood for her family; she also sought to empower other women, trying to teach girls and women the art of fishing, thus opening new horizons and opportunities for them in a society suffering from significant restrictions.
Over the years, Madeleine and her boat weren’t spared from the ravages of the occupation. Her boat was destroyed numerous times by Israeli occupation forces, in an attempt to deter her from her work and break her will. But each time, Madeleine returned stronger and more determined, repairing her boat and going back to the waters of Gaza, defying all attempts at oppression and despair.
Now, in the aftermath of the latest devastating war on Gaza, Madeleine has lost her most precious possessions: her father and her boat, her lifeline and source of income. But even amidst this profound loss and pain, Madeleine Kullab’s story remains a beacon of hope and resilience, the driving force behind naming the Freedom Flotilla ship after her.
Naming the ship “Madeleine” isn’t just a tribute to one woman; it’s a powerful message to the entire world about the suffering of the Palestinian people and their legendary steadfastness in the face of siege and occupation.
It’s a reminder that behind every attempt to break the siege, there are painful human stories, stories of individuals like Madeleine Kullab, who have paid a heavy price due to the injustice inflicted upon them.
On board this ship, bearing the name “Madeleine”, there were 12 brave individuals who tried to break the unjust siege, but unfortunately, they are now detained by the occupation forces. All our support and love go to Madeleine and her family, and to the courageous individuals who were on board the ship, awaiting their freedom and the lifting of the siege on Gaza.
Their cause is the cause of humanity as a whole, and Madeleine’s story will continue to inspire future generations to defy injustice and strive for freedom and dignity.
